Sound sculptures. The Baschet instruments

One day the Baschet brothers, François and Bernard, asked themselves why they should play 20th century music using 18th century instruments. So they decided to create new instruments. This exhibition shows around 30 of these musical creations, filled with creativity and experimentation. All of them have the common denominator of seeking parallelisms between their sculptural form and their musical tone. These instruments are normally made of metal and are transformable, as their components or plates can be modified and recombined. The maximum amplification of sound is achieved with a nearly imperceptible vibration. Also the Baschet instruments combine colour and have been designed in an educational manner, for children to use them and discover the playful side of music.
