The district of Sant Martì is on the eastern part of the city by the Mediterranean Sea and includes the charming neighbourhood of Poble Nou, Vila Olimpica and the Olimpic Port.
Whilst being very close to the city centre Poble Nou has kept a local and relaxed atmosphere where to stroll along the pedestrian Rambla de Poble Nou lined with its many cafes, bars and shops. The area also provides the scene to many music festivals and the old warehouses have been converted into fashionable art studios. The underground nightlife in Poble Nou is very lively offering a huge selection of clubs and warehouse parties for tourists and Barcelonians alike.
Shoppers can shop until they drop in Europe’s biggest shopping centre Diagonal del Mar and market lovers will enjoy the open air  flea-market on the north of the district.
Constructed for the 1992 Olympic Games, Vila Olimpica is one of the newest neighbourhoods in Barcelona.  Futuristic architecture is one of the area’s trademarks, in particular two buildings have become the representative of the area, Hotel Arts, designed by the architects Bruce Gram and Frank O.Gehry, and Mapfre Tower, designed by Iñigo Ortiz and Enrique de León. Their importance is not just architectural, but at  the height of 153.5 metres they are the two tallest buildings in Spain.
The area also has plenty of green spaces and some of Barcelona’s best beaches. The whole of Barcelona seem to come here on Sundays to stroll along the Ronda del Litoral and the Olimpic Port with over 80 of the best seafood restaurants in the city. At night the area turns into the city’s most popular and liveliest club scene.
