Sarrià-Sant Gervasi is the upper class district of Barcelona and one of the biggest. Discovered by the wealthy middle class, what used to be a rural region in the mid XIX century, soon became a posh urban area with elegant villas, beautiful squares, religious schools and convents. This district includes the neighbourhood of Tres Torres named after the first three elegant houses that were built in the area at the beginning of the XX century when Tres Torres was still an unpopulated rural area in the outskirts of Sant Gervasi. By the mid 1900s elegant residential building went up and today the neighbourhood is divided into two areas, an older and smaller quarter near Tres Torres market and a more recent area with modern buildings.
The Tibidado Mountain, the tallest in the Collserola Massif, belongs to this district and with it the beautiful Obervatori Fabra, an important scientific centre for studies of astronomy and meteorology since 1894. Tourists come up here mainly for the beautiful views over Barcelona, to admire the elegant architecture and for the Tibidado Amusement Park.
